Dearet Jornal,

Today was a great discovery. Me and Joey, thats my baby panda, was out for a stroll in the little forest by the lake, chasin a butterfly here and there. It was a quiet peaceful day, just the two of us enjoying the beautiful warm weather, when bout half way through the woods I heard this most pretty cuuing noise. It was so soft and gentle like, I almost didnt hear it. I stopped to listen, hoping to catch it again. I waited for what seemed hours, ok maybe just a minute or two, when finally I heard it again. It was close, somewhere off to my right. Setting Joey down, I got to my hands and knees and started searching through some of the tall weeds and flowers near the tree bases. The rustling must have startled whatever was making that strange noise because it seemed like a heavy cloud of silence fell over the forest. I held my breathe, my hand steady on some tall grass, trying not to move till again a short soft cuuing was heard. I was really close now. I inched forward, pushing aside a few more blades of tall grass and flowers till a small hole came into view. Some of the roots have pushed up out of the ground and were covered in moss, creating a little den almost, and there in that semi dark hole, I was sure I caught a glimpse of a pair of pale green eyes.

I laid down on the grass, placing my chin on my folder hands infront of me as I watched curiously into the little den. Joey climbed up on my back and was leaning on my head trying to get a peak down at whatever held my attention. Minutes passed with just a blink here and there of those green eyes. Almost like it was studying me, just as curious about me as I was it. Trying not to startle whatever lay inside, I pulled a little baggy of berries from my bag I was carrying and placed a few at the entrance of the den and then settled back down, chin on hands, watching and waiting.
Another few minutes and nothing, I was about to give up and leave when I seen a little furry paw dash out of the den, grab a berry and before I could blink, was gone again. I could hear what sounded like sniffing and new the critter must be examining the tasty berry. Few seconds later the paw came back out, not quite as fast, and grabbed for the remaining berries and was gone again. I laid there listening to the sound of munching and mushing as each berry was devoured. Then all was silent .. again.

I waited ..

And waited …

I knew not how long I laid there, but my curiousity held me glued to the spot, not chancing any sound. Then I watched in awe as those beautiul green eyes came closer to the light, such round gentle eyes, that only seemed to grow in size as they approached till finally I could see the little face poking out from the darkness. It was the most curious looking thing, cute and adorable, but so so curious. Never have I dreamed up such a critter. I smiled at it as I lay there watching. Soon it had moved to the entrance and sat there on its hind legs and tilted its head to the side staring at me. It made such an adorable sight.

Moving my hand very slowly, I pushed the baggy of berries forward a few inches and left them there. I could see the eyes following the little package as it moved closer and without hesitation, it was in the critter’s paws. I smiled bigger, catching a giggle as i covered my hand with my mouth as it pushed its little nose into the bag and started munching on the berries. It was such a funny sight, the little critter’s nose was turning a slight shade of blue as it smooshed the berries against the bag while eating. I couldnt hold back and let out a little giggle, clamping my hand tightly over my mouth as I watched.

The critter stopped eating and looked at me, again tilting its head as if studying me curiously, then it put the baggy down and started moving closer. Slowly at first, caustious steps here and there till finally it gave a little bounce of its hind legs and leaped just inches from my face. I didnt move, a bit caught off guard by the sudden movement. I felt Joey tumble backwards and slide to the ground beside me, hiding his head and peaking up every few seconds.
I held my breathe, not sure what to do.

The critter sat back on its legs again and holding out its arms, its paws pressed against my hand held tightly to my mouth. I loosend my grip it pawed at my fingers, eventually taking hold of them and pulling my hand back from my mouth. I laid there, hand in its paws, mouth pressed tight, wide eyed .. then slowly a smile spread across my lips. It was at that moment, I could have sworn I seen it smile too. I giggled, smiled more, bigger, my eyes bright and excited.
The critter released my hand and nuzzled its face into mine then jumped back and started bouncing around playfully. I crawled to my knees and watched it, Joey moved up to sit beside me, looking up then at the critter then back up at me. I smiled and gave Joey a little hug.

I dont know how long we sat there watching the critter dance around happily, but soon Joey lay snuggled against my side sleeping and I started to drift off as I laid down again laying my head on my hands. I felt another fluffy little body snuggle agaisnt my other side and soon we were all sleeping. The day slowly ticking away, till finally I woke to Joey tugging at the pack I wore, trying to get the last bag of berries still inside. It was then I noticed we were alone. I checked the den for our little friend but the pressing night made it too dark to see much around us let alone into the darkend hole.

We returned home. And here I am now, writing. I think tomorrow shall be another adventure into the little forest.
